This is a statue on Hampton's campus. It is a statue of Booker T Washington. He is pointing in the direction of a tree. This tree is unique in that it is the tree where Lincoln gave his famous Emancipation speech.
What is the direction to freedom? What are we a slave to? Some people would say it can be your beliefs. Some people would say it is the amount of money or power you could obtain. Some would say it is gaining as much knowledge and experience you can to gather wisdom. I would say it is the first and third statements. We need to take advantage of education. Our youth are a slave to the lack of motivation to be educated. Education and faith will, in my opinion, lead you to freedom.
